You must deal with your household waste responsibly and legally.
Who looks after your waste?
Your local council will be responsible for most types of waste you produce in your home. If you have any problems with your rubbish collection, you need to contact them.
If you hire contractors such as builders or scrap metal merchants to take waste away from your property, you must make sure they are a licensed waste carrier.
If you throw away hazardous wastes, such as paints, oils, television sets and asbestos, you must do this at properly managed waste facilities.Your local council will be able to advise how and where.
There is also some information on how to dispose of asbestos on the Directgov website:
If someone has flytipped rubbish in your local area, such as old sofas or fridges, you need to report this to your local council. Where the flytipping is very serious or it's part of organised crime, we will get involved.
Waste recycling
Your local council provides waste recycling services and facilities in your area.
