Learning & development

Learning and development is essential in helping our employees deliver outcomes that benefit the environment. Learning opportunities are many and varied within our organisation with over 320 programmes currently available.

Training

Through our performance management process, staff work with their line manager to identify and meet the learning needs enabling them to be effective in their role. Some people may need highly specialised technical training or leadership programmes whilst others may need tools to develop project management skills or opportunties to develop particular behaviours, such as influencing skills. We also have programmes for individuals who demonstrate additional potential and talent.

Professional development

We strongly value professional development. The Learning and Development team work closely with the business and external bodies such as professional institutes, consultancies, and universities to deliver the solutions our staff need to operate at a highly professional level. We deliver skills programmes across a range of different media including classroom based, e-learning and distance learning. We're also increasingly enabling people to learn on-the-job and under the guidance of a mentor.

Our commitment

We're a large and fast-changing organisation, spending around £6 million a year on training for our staff to ensure that our people can deliver environmental outcomes. To do this we ensure learning and development is leading-edge, innovative, good value and represents best practice for the whole organisation.
